Spring 2026 Appeal
I am no stranger to the flurry of activity and organized chaos that a preschool classroom can be. This being my first year at QH, I have had the opportunity to see a preschool like no other come to life, day by day. It is a hub of activity, where children huddle together reading in the nook, others construct lego airplanes next to a group constructing an elaborate train track that travels near and far. Signs marking destinations like Middlebury, Ripton, and Boston are scattered throughout the room while conductors drive their trains past peers at the sand table, painters at the easel & around a table full of kids eating snack. Everyone moves about with care. Each of us observing what one another is up to, admiring aloud the thoughtfulness and ingenuity of their work.
As I reflect further on this year, I recognize it as another year of monumental growth for QH. On the heels of purchasing the building in February 2025, in July, QH welcomed 2 new co-teaching directors. We have spent the year learning about one another and sharing what we have to offer. From introducing QH’s beloved annual traditions like Stone Soup & Peace and Love to teachers sharing their favorite stories, songs, and professional knowledge.
It has been a great privilege to be welcomed into this community with such open arms. The magic of Quarry Hill is a byproduct of its strong sense of place and the children, families and teachers who come together each day and each year to make it what it is. I love seeing the authenticity in interactions. Families and teachers checking in daily to facilitate strong relationships. Children and teachers working together to scaffold learning. And children engaging in a myriad of activities and play.
We feel so lucky to be in community with one another. All of us. We appreciate your support and hope you can make a gift this spring.
Fall Appeal 2025
November 2025
Dear Friends of Quarry Hill ,
Most days when I arrived at Quarry Hill to pick up my daughter Lennox last year, she was in the branches on one of the many trees. Her favorites were the apple trees in the play yard and the pear tree in the upper field. I was sometimes surprised by how high she had climbed, but she consistently navigated her way to the ground independently. There was always a teacher nearby, keeping a close eye on my little monkey– reminding her to check in with her body as she climbed higher, but never discouraging her exploration. Lennox started kindergarten this fall, a shift she has approached with the same fearlessness and grace with which she climbs trees. In large part, I credit her experience at Quarry Hill with this easy transition. In this magical place, our children are free to follow their imaginations and explore their surroundings with intention. The teachers support this process with expert care and encourage kindness balanced with accountability and responsibility. The result is confident kids who know how to navigate their dynamic world with curiosity, love, and authenticity.
Stone Soup Feast 2024
We were thrilled to have a beautiful day for an outdoor singing circle and our Stone Soup Feast. The children had worked so hard preparing a full meal of bread and butter, soups, popcorn and other delicious things for over 75 people to enjoy! The cornbread was made with locally grown corn we shucked, shelled and ground-- hurrah for process based learning! We learned songs to share and teach, proudly shared our school, and are so happy to know that this special event has fully returned from the pandemic modifications.
